IIBEC proudly awarded the Herbert Bushing Memorial Award to the late Michael Goolsby in March of 2023. Mike Crooks received the award on his behalf. Michael was a huge contributor to IIBEC and the industry as we know it today.
Mike started his own roofing company in Florida when he got out of the Air Force in the early 1980’s.
In 1998, Mike began the next phase of his life working for Miami Dade County. During his time with the county, Mike worked a Sr. Project Manager/Roof Consultant, Building Code Compliance Specialist for Roofing, Chief Code Compliance Division, Division Director Boards Code Administration and Division Chief Boards and Code Administration.
After retiring from Miami Dade County in 2020, and not wanting to be come bored, Mike would start his own company, Affiliated Roof Consulting and was also Vide President for Turnkey Roof Consulting, Inc.
With more than 35 years working on the Construction and Roofing Business, Mike completed the Harvard University JFK School of Government Executive Education, was instrumental in the continued education of contractors, conducted many technical training seminars, workshops, conferences, developed policies, procedures, guidelines, strategies. Mike earned many professional licenses including State Certified General Contractor, Roofing Contractor, Building Code Administrator, & Roofing Inspector.
Mike worked hard his entire life, lived a quiet life, and even as a young kid, was early to bed, early to rise, he was very smart, and it was impressive to see all his accomplishments, but his biggest success would always be his family, as he loved them very much.
In 1994, the IIBEC Executive Committee established the Dr. Herbert Busching Award after the late Clemson University professor and engineer. Busching was a dedicated early member of IIBEC and the first chairman of the IIBEC Board of Regents. Recipients of this award are “people who have contributed to the research, standards, and education of the roofing, waterproofing, and/or exterior wall industries.
